Best in class -

PoE Interoperability Guide is a gentle, thorough and comprehensive book on PoE.
I am not aware of any books like this one, meaning: are there any other books as complete as this
one that describe PoE from the early beginnings of Ethernet to present times? There are none to my knowledge, with this level of
didactic expertise, profusely illustrated with pictures and tables that are quite hard to obtain anywhere else under the same cover.
The book's overview of POE is very descriptive and is an easy and pleasant reading, virtually for any reader interested in
the subject. Specifications written on the subject are quite hard to read and understand.
Sanjaya writes very smoothly keeping the explanations concise and to the point.
Figure 1.3 on Ethernet Nomenclature is very nicely laid out, the chart in itself has a tremendous amount of content.
The book blends and describes the purpose, the history and the functionality of Ethernet
and PoE. Chapter 2 is a very nice and very descriptive of various PoE implementations.
The fact that it does not get into the advanced calculus of electromagnetism and electrical engineering makes the book
very attractive to a very wide audience. Hardware engineers, software engineers, management types and the
curious teammate on PoE can definitely benefit from the information the book presents. I also believe that the book
may also be informative as well as useful to patent attorneys with some background on Ethernet and basic electrical concepts.
Chapter 3 on Detection is very rich in content as well as practical. For example refer to the section on
"Some Practical Detection Techniques". This is material is so useful that unless you have expertise with the technology,
formal specifications will not tell you. The author mentions some facts or what I may call them "incomplete concepts"
that some industry specification will not tell you.
The chapter on Classification unveils and unifies important concepts such as default classes, limits of AC/DC power supplies,
layers and event classifications. Inrush and power-up are really well described in particular from a current perspective.
For some reason some engineers are concerned about voltages without investigating what currents do.
Please refer to the addressing of current limiting and will understand what I am trying to say. Figure 5.7 is a prefect example
of important electrical considerations, that some people only address once problems arise. For example the use of basic capacitor
current/ voltage relationship adds great value to the explanations without getting into complicated math equations.
The chapter on "Operations" addresses some very important topics such as overload and short circuit protection, how the AT and AF
specifications deal with short circuit, and so on. PoE state diagrams are very useful not only to practicing engineers but also
to beginners in the field. The topic on magnetics is very elegantly covered, unveiling what inductors, their cores and their behavior effects are in the operation of the system. The book covers isolation techniques and the need for them, PCB design issues to look for, and so on and so forth.
It also has a chapter on surges and how to get protected from them. The reader gets an intimate knowledge of what not just the voltages
but most importantly the current behavior does. Many other topics like transmission lines and their effects are covered in a nice qualitative fashion, leaving aside the advanced math that is usually attached to this topic.
I recommend this book highly for its content, completeness, ease of readability, and blending many of PoE topics under one cover. I would go to the extent that a beginner should read this book first, before reading sometimes "incomprehensible" industry standards or vendor specifications.
Because of all of the above I give 5 stars to this book.

Excellent Book.

The author addresses PoE, PoE+ and N-Pairs in-depth and it certainly helps a lot to understand these technologies. Despite the technical content, the book has a very didactic language.
