Review
"A solid combination of sexy fun." —Carly Phillips, New York Times bestselling author

"…[Kim Law's] readers will feel every emotion if not by empathy definitely by sympathy for her characters." —Under The Covers Book Blog

About the Author
Kim Law wrote her first story, “The Gigantic Talking Raisin,” in elementary school. Although it was never published, it was enough to whet her appetite for a career in writing. First, however, she would try her hand at a few other passions: baton twirling, softball, and music, to name a few. Voted Bookworm and Most Likely to Succeed in high school, she went on to earn a college degree in mathematics. Law spent years working as a computer programmer and raising her son, and she now devotes her time and energy to writing romance novels (none of which feature talking raisins). She is a past winner of the Romance Writers of America’s Golden Heart Award and currently serves as president for her local RWA chapter. Kim is the author of Caught on Camera and Sugar Springs. A native of Kentucky, she lives with her husband in Middle Tennessee.

Fine as long as you leave your brains at the door
By Georgia O'Keefe
The title may seem harsh, but then, so is my assessment of the vacillating, ambivalent, ethically challenged hero in this book, as well as the proposition that egregiously hurtful behaviour can, or should be forgiven and forgotten, so long as there is an "explanation" no matter how lame.

So here's the gist of my problem with this book:

I have never been abandoned at the alter. I have never witnessed an abandonment at the alter. But I've got a fairly good imagination, and here's what I think about being abandoned at the alter. It is one of the few cases where the hurt of having a relationship end will almost always be overtaken by the sheer humiliation of being dumped in the most scornful, indecent way, in front of all of your friends. Friends who saved the day, bought gifts, dieted to fit into their dresses, and got up early to drive to the church. Friends who will share in your humiliation, then, depending on how close they are, speak in hushed tones about it for months to come, look at you like someone whose dog died, or gossip meanly behind your back. It is one of those events that you not only have to get over, you've got to live down. For some, its probably a move-to-a-new town level of humiliation.

Now lets add another level of hurt: the person who convinced you they loved you, put a ring on your finger, and promised they'd see you shortly at the church, sends their mean snob of friend to blow you off at the alter, then DOESN'T SPEAK TO YOU FOR FOUR YEARS. Instead, he dates a bunch of other girls, gets engaged, treats the long-time friend to whom he gets engaged like crap until she dumps him(after the wedding has been announced in the society pages, natch). While you remain celibate and lick your wounds, for the duration.

Now my ladies: this is an act of hate right? This is not an ambivalent man. This is not a troubled man. This is someone who is okay with treating you to a shame-walk of horror that most of us will never have to go through in their lives, then never seeing your sorry ass again. Or at least for four years, which for most twenty-something people is a lifetime.

So when you see this guy do you:

A: pull out the pepper spray, mace him, call the cops and have him hauled off for daring to show his face in your neck of the woods.

B: leave him to your girlfriends' wrath but intercede before the assault turns deadly.

C: Vomit violently on his shoes, run away, and binge eat for several weeks while making plans to hack his bank accounts and ruin his life.

D: succumb to your continued sexual attraction to him, and slowly let him back into your heart, in spite of his pathetic explanation of why he broke your heart and your self-esteem and didn't bother to do it to your face.

D, of course! Because everyone deserves a second chance, right? And your friends and family would be totally down with that, too? Of course they would.

Final assessment: if selection D just makes sense to you, then you will love this books. Oh, and there's lots of other grand betrayals and forgiveness too. A woman steals the love of her sister's life, and they both pay the price years later, but hey, we all make mistakes, right? The problem is, the mistakes made by Kim Law's characters are not the kind that should be forgotten, even if forgiven. This is because they each indicate a lack of integrity. A person can do dumb, mean things, and still be a good person. But a person who will seduce the love of their sister's life and lie to him about her sister's feelings about him? This is an integrity-challenged person.

A man who will leave a woman with whom they've been intimate and claim to love standing in front of all their friends and family in a packed church, then not speak a word to them for 4 years? This is not troubled. This is a person who lacks integrity. I've got no issues with calling off a wedding at the last minute. Better than marrying when it doesn't feel right. But this is some cold behaviour. This is the kind of moral compromise that just speaks volumes about character or lack thereof.

I'm fine with the heroine forgiving the lead character (healing, and all that jazz, anger is bad for you yada yada yada). But to get back with someone that messed up? Now that's just dumb as hell. Plus, it's so unrealistic. If a guy treated me this horribly, and waited 4 years to breeze in and say he's sorry, my family, who are mild-mannered liberals, might well take up shot-guns.

One last small gripe: I hate the mystical crone/maiden theme. I am talking about the friend or older relative who can read the minds of the lead characters, see that, despite everything, they love each other, and spouts hokey truth-tellin' homilies about everyone deserving second-chances. So hokum.

Do Not Pay for This Serial
By D. Green
I got sucked into paying for this but don't make the same mistake. It started off with an okay premise, but went downhill fast. It's terrible writing, filled with typos, misspellings, and awful cliches. "Her lady parts tingled at the thought of it" is just one example of the author's lazy, repetitive, and meandering writing. The story really hasn't gone anywhere, and I feel apathetic if another excerpt comes or not. I have never written a review on here, but I'm writing one to say this just isn't worth paying for. Romances can be very well-written, but this one isn't.

Fantastic!
By dnordstrom
I really like the first episode of this serial! I haven't read any other serials but think I am really going to like it! It grabs you and then leaves you thinking 2 weeks is too long to wait for the next episode! I am so curious to see where this story goes!!

Now I have read the second episode and it's as good as the first!!! You try imagine where the story is going to go next but you won't know for sure for 2 weeks(which is a very long time)!!
