Settling back on the sofa, he picked up his cell phone and typed in Hollianne Talbot's name. Then listened to the ringing on the other end.
“Hello,” a sultry-sounding voice answered. It was not the kind of voice he would have expected her to have; contrary to the picture of dejection she had presented, it held a sense of possibility held in check, of unconscious but undeniable sensuality.
He closed his eyes. The better to savor the voice, he thought, but opened his eyes again at the absurdity of that idea.
He was an angel, not a wolf in a stupid fairy tale, regardless of how he was unable to quite shake off the image of a predator stalking prey. No, he thought. I refuse to think of myself in those terms, even if I’m being metaphorical.
“Yes, hello. May I speak with Hollianne Talbot, please?” he said rather gruffly.
"You are," the husky voice replied.
He felt his heart thumping in that strange way again; he could not decide whether it was painful or pleasurable. Her voice was enough to send a human male's thoughts into completely inappropriate areas.
I'm already there, he reminded himself, feeling utterly human at the moment.
“How may I help you?” asked Hollianne, obviously curious that he was quiet.

Sent from heaven

Literally fallen from heaven, Erick Angell is sent to earth as punishment because of his failure to empathize with and understand humanity. He is extremely hard on the human race and is thus sent to go and live with them. Just to be clear, Erick is an angel - well, a dark one in a way because of his lack of understanding. When he was cast out of heaven he was at least provided with plenty of money and he invested in many businesses. Whilst he has the ability to help humans but over the years he has kept himself isolated and only had the minimum contact possible with business associates as he finds that he simply cannot relate to any humans.
This all changes when he meets Holianne Talbot as suddenly he finds himself fascinated and unwillingly drawn to help her in any way possible. He ends up hiring her to help her out of a particularly bad spot of financial trouble but he soon realizes that there is a lot more to the initial attraction and they have instant chemistry together. Erick of course doesn't understand the way he feels and Sandra Ross does a superb job of describing his character and confusion and progression of the dark angel's understanding and exploration of humanity. Erick is the angel and Holianne feels that he is her guardian angel but ironically she is the human angel who is sent to him to help him understand all his unanswered questions.
This story is well written and Ross takes care to slowly unfurl the characters at a comfortable pace and the style is very relaxing and well-written. The development of their relationship is fresh and interesting from a different angle, the view of an angel's but don't worry - there is plenty of chemistry to keep things exciting! Holianne is not normally a love-at-first-sight kind of girl and she usually finds that her attraction for somebody develops over time but when she meets Erick she is instantly mesmerized and is surprised at herself.
Ross has a well-thought out plot and it is very refreshing to read as the plot unfurls and to be kept entertained mentally. This isn't just a love story, it is a story about humanity and understanding human life from a completely new and different perspective. I also appreciate the build up because I find that romance stories can sometimes just be about sex and don't always have a well-developed plot, more akin to a `wham, bam and thank you ma'am' kind of feel for me and I usually find myself wanting for more and not feeling fully satisfied. However, the plot in this instance is well written and I can't wait to read the sequel.

Waiting for my Angel in Disguise!

At first when I saw this book, I thought of "City of Angels" with Meg Ryan and Nicholas cage. I almost passed on it because I really didn't want to fall in love with the characters only to watch them die in the end. I was glad though that I followed my gut instead and gave the book my full attention.
I found this supernatural love story to be promising but the characters need more meat. The story is about an earthbound angel named Erick who is just starting to get used to his human form then he begins to experience the stirrings of human emotions for the first time the moment he meets the down trodden Holliane Talbot. It's starts of right in the thick of Holliane's despair and Erick so happens to be sitting across the street witnessing her humiliating row with her landlord. Instantly he become intrigued by this poor woman's plight. Then the story takes off and he injects himself into her world to get to know her better and finds that he is falling in love with her the more he gets the know her. Holliane on the other hand is almost instantly taken with him.
The story has a very nice flow and the romance more of a journey into self discovery as Erick tries to cope with his human emotions. Holliane has a very tragic background which puts her in a very vulnerable position. Because of this when Erick sweeps in to pull her out of the rut she was in her gratitude turns into something much more profound. It made me question the sincerity of her love for him. If she hadn't been in the position she was in - would she have fallen for him the way she did? I had trouble understanding why Erick was on earth in human form in the first place. Where was his background? Was he kicked out of heaven or sent on a mission? I needed these answers to make the story more believable.
He was truly her Angel in Disguise but there wasn't anything truly unique about him other than the fact that he was an actual Angel that seemed to be without purpose until he met her. I thought the title should have been "White Knight in Disguise" because there wasn't anything dark or sinister about Erick to begin with. I wanted more. I wanted to get to know more about Holliane's and Erick's background to understand their mindset. If I understood how Hollaine's mind worked for example then I would have been satisfied with her reaction towards him when he saved her. I did not get to connect with Holliane the way I would have liked. I'll give it to Sandra the story was gripping but there were many gaps that needed to be filled.
I would attribute this story and the way it unfolded to watching a butterfly emerge from its cocoon. It truly is the unfolding of a romance, how two hearts are drawn to each other and the wonders they experience along the way. For Erick it's an awakening and for Hollaine it's discovering the truth about the man that holds her heart captive. It's a touching story that makes you wonder whether or not there is an angel out there cloaked by human flesh waiting to swoop into your life. I for one would welcome the opportunity to welcome that sort of supernatural love!

Dark knight

I would not recommend this book. It was a good story but to get all of it you have to buy it in sections. There are area total of four and you have to buy each for 2-99each. I would have been ok buying the book but felt I was used by having to buy the sections. They can try to call them each a book but they are not. Too bad a good story was ruined.
