Simon Goodson is the author of the highly rated 'Wanderer's Escape' science fiction novel, and the two exciting books comprising the 'Dark Soul Silenced' fantasy story. His short stories cover a variety of speculative fiction including, but not limited to, science fiction and fantasy. Pleasant surpise

A good fast paced read. Interesting characters and a fresh twist on a standard plot. The writing is rather good for a 1st book, dialog is clean, action is good, plenty of mysteries in mysteries. As another reviewer noted, the hero is insanely naive. I guess you can chalk it up to him only 16 and being born a slave, but one could also surmise that that kind of environment would make him very wary and ruthless. The Tech is what it is, its never gone into much in detail. Nor is much explained about how this universe works.
The author has done a fine job for a first book, but it could have been better as I'm sure he will be with more experience. The price point is too high IMO for a 1st book. I almost skipped over it because of that, but I wanted a book now so here we are. If you want to get noticed quickly as a new author, you need to be at the 1.99 - 2.99 price.
I'll buy a sequel if the price doesn't spook me.

Good first book. Few editing issues

Ok, the things I need in a book are simple.
A good universe: Check. Mostly well thought out setting, politics and physics. He didn't wing it.
Non-simple characters: Check. Like 'em or hate 'em, I don't see many paper cutouts here. Some of them and the character interaction could have been more developed, but hey, new author.
Character growth: Yeah, sort of. Actually not a lot of room for it, but he tried.
Character continuity: Check. No out of character decisions or activity just to drive the plot.
Entertaining plot: Check. Not original, but he moved it well, with some good variations.
This isn't a deep thoughtful book, folks. It's entertainment and worth the read.

I cannot wait for more!

A good book should leave you: sad to be saying goodbye to the characters, happy to have met the characters and universe, pleased with the resolution of the major conflicts, curious to see what happens in the future. This book meets the criteria and far exceeded my expectations. You might have noticed I made no comments about spelling, punctuation, or the need for editing. I try to overlook those things and focus on the creativity and imagination exhibited in the writing. But; I was pleasantly surprised, there was no need to overlook anything. That makes this an even better bargain. Definitely worth the read.
