From the Back Cover
From the #1 London Times bestselling author Josephine Cox comes a powerful story of a love shrouded in darkness and shocking secrets, and plagued by malignant forces.
All Jack's life, his nightmares have haunted him, dragging him back to a place where it was always midnight. . . . Molly and Jack are deeply in love. But Jack's night terrors are tearing their relationship apart. Taunted by eyes in the gloom of night, Jack is finding it harder and harder to free himself from the haunting visions, even once daylight comes. In his dreams, he knows exactly what's demanded of him, but when he wakes he can make no sense of what they mean. With Molly urging him to seek help, frightened that her adored one is being driven too close to the edge, Jack begins to hunt for answers—a search that is taking him back through the shadows of his own past and toward the one person he could turn to throughout his troubled youth. But the revelations waiting there could prove too terrible for Jack or Molly to endure. . . .
About the Author
Josephine Cox was born in Blackburn, one of ten children. At the age of sixteen, Josephine met and married her husband Ken, and had two sons. When the boys started school, she decided to go to college and eventually gained a place at Cambridge University. She was unable to take this up as it would have meant living away from home, but she went into teaching - and started to write her first full-length novel. She won the 'Superwoman of Great Britain' Award, for which her family had secretly entered her, at the same time as her novel was accepted for publication.

A long yawn
By Callida
Thankfully I borrowed this book from the library and didn't waste my money on it. It was billed as a creepy mystery/thriller about a guy (Jack) driven to discover why he was being haunted by terrifying nightmares. Instead I waded through page after page of prosaic family drama, with the nightmares becoming sidetracked for most of the way. The solution was neat enough and quite sad, but hardly riveting stuff. The saccharine "happily ever after" ending glossed over any analysis of the after effects of the events on Jack, and I guess his nightmares just magically disappeared. The character of Molly was shallow and stereotyped. She was conveniently removed from the action when she became too troublesome, saving Cox the bother of developing her in more than one dimension and/or showing the effects of her actions on Jack and Libby. Minor characters such as Jan were also horribly stereotyped. The relationship between Jack and Libby was another "magical" event, with everything falling into place like a fairy tale and none of the normal relationship hassles evident. Nothing about this book or the characters seemed true to life. I'd recommend saving your money.

A disappointing read
By Diana M. Hockley
This is the first Josephine Cox novel I have read and I am astounded! How could a traditional publisher - Harper Collins - allow such a badly edited novel onto the market? There were a number of errors and, glaringly, in one place toward the end, the name "Molly" is used instead of "Libby" - a very silly error.
The plot rambles, the nightmares secondary to the domestic details of the characters' lives. What could have been a cracking thriller, lost urgency very early in the story. Molly, the ex-girlfriend is a monster - that is undeniable - but she is also a one-dimensional character whose motivation for revenge is obsession over Jack.
I was disappointed in the way this experienced author cobbled everything together in the last few lame pages of the novel- and how everything fell into place for Jack, whose nightmares apparently disappeared with nary a whimper.
I wonder, because of the amateur writing, if this was an urgent pot-boiler demanded by the publishers to fill a gap in the market.
A half-hearted effort at best on behalf of the author.

MIDNIGHT~
By Coffee Time Romance & More
The nightmares that plague Jack are so terrifying he waffles back and forth about seeking help, much like an alcoholic who does not want to admit having a drinking problem. Molly begs him to seek help, which in my opinion is well within her right, yet she does a complete one-eighty when he becomes determined to find answers. Libby's loving care for her mother is without question completely selfless and amazing. I would really like to have seen much less of Molly and Jack's relationship and more of his re-acquaintance with Libby and his hometown.
