Great Read, the characters felt very real!

I loved this book and the sequel!
Maggie Shayne has created character with depth, and a storyline that will have readers cheering for the hero and heroine. *G* Also, I loved the way she weaves the magic into her books.
As far as bashing Christians...well, I don't think if I were the heroines of these two books and had been persecuted in the name of religion I would be very forgiving either. Hanging and watching your friends being burned to death would do that. I'd probably have major attitude problems towards organized religion, so I don't think it would be in character for these characters not to feel this way.
When you learn that there were entire villages in Germany with *no* women left after the witch hunters were through then you can understand something of the horror of that time and the scars it would leave. Once someone was accused of being a witch, there was almost no way to escape. They even managed to burn Joan of Arc for being a witch! All of this is historical fact, and so, in keeping with the development of these characters.

Unlike most mushy romances this actually holds substance. The dialogue is witty, crisp, and clever. She writes with the promised prose of more to come as the future unfolds. Just okay...

I really wanted to like this book. The blurb was interesting and even the first 50 pages had me thinking, but it just didn't deliver in the end. I'm not traditionally a huge romance reader, but I was interested in this one because of the supernatural aspect which was just okay for me. The author didn't create a new world, if you will, where I tried to think ahead about the "what ifs" and I believed it was really possible. It had potential hence my early interest, but it just got forced and not thoroughly written. The seemingly random sex, most often at incredibly inappropriate times, was too much for me. It just didn't fit the story. Also, the editing is terrible. I stopped counting how many times "father" was "rather" and quotes were missing for dialogue. My advice is take this one as what it is - brain candy.

Just Add Heat is told from Justine's point of view. She has to discover what she is blocking out on her own, and showing a history that she has no knowledge of would make the story of getting her memory back a pointless exercise. I wanted to be able to share a bit of their back story, though, so after every chapter I wrote, I would start over and write the entire scene from the hero's perspective. It was fun to write a story that was running parallel to the original, and it was something I'd often wished for in books told in first person POV. When I was finished, I had two novels that mirrored each other, but the tone of each was different, as each story was told in the voice of the character experiencing it. Baby, It's Cold Outside is Carter's version of the same events, and it gives a bit of insight into their relationship in its pre-amnesia days. To see how their relationship got it's start, read PreHeat, the prequel novelette.

What a hell of a weekend for this poor guy. I couldn't picture it. Wondering if you'd lost everything on what should have been one of the best, most exciting days of your life. And the author lays it out so realistically that you can't help but feel for the characters.

This story being a romance from the male POV is just phenomenal. It's an awesomely heart wrenching love story, but with a bit more kick. None of the frilly, girlie stuff here. The story draws you in without asking and doesn't let you go. Although Jourdin's writing style remains consistent from the first novel in the series, but yet changes to accommodate Carter as the POV character. It's quite unique.

Character development in this novel is minimal, however, the characters are so well laid out in the first novel in the series that it would be redundant here and would actually break the smooth flow of the story. We do, however, find out more about Carter and his view on the other characters in the novel.

All I have to say right now is that I F-IN LOVE this story. It was the embodiment of awesomeness. Taking this unique storyline, that was already atypical for the genre, and telling it from the male POV just pushed it over the top.

I admit it! I cheated and asked my brother

I felt like this book was very authentic but wanted to make sure that a man would actually think and feel the way it is portrayed in the book. I am not married so...... I asked my brother. He laughed at most of my questions and agreed that a guys brain does indeed works that way. The whole underwear drawer thing was the thing that he agreed with more than anything. He also liked the whole cat debacle.
I laughed throughout this book and will now be forced to read the other point of view. I just have one thing to say more on this one though; I am totally stealing kumquat.

LoveLoveLove! I really enjoyed this book. It had a HEA (Happy Ever After) ending. And the characters are cute together so yeah. Yes you should buy this book...totally worth it! Just Add Heat is from Justine's POV where as Baby It's Cold Outside is from Carter's POV. They are the same stories just from different POVs it's cool to see what they both were thinking when the exact same events where happening.

About the Author

Matthew Lippman has taught criminal law and criminal procedure in the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) for more than twenty years. He has also taught courses on civil liberties, law and society, and terrorism and teaches international criminal law at John Marshall Law School in Chicago. He earned a doctorate in Political Science from Northwestern University, a Master of Law from Harvard Law School, and is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar. He has been voted by the graduating seniors at UIC to receive the Silver Circle Award for outstanding teaching on six separate occasions and has also received the UIC Flame Award from the University of Illinois Alumni Association, as well as the Excellence in Teaching Award, Teaching Recognition (Portfolio) Award, and Honors College Fellow of the Year Award. The university chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, the criminal justice honors society, named him “criminal justice professor of the year” on three occasions. In 2008, Professor Lippman was named College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Master Teacher. He is also recognized in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.

Professor Lippman is author of more than eighty articles and three books. These publications focus on criminal law and criminal procedure, international human rights, and comparative law. His work is cited in hundreds of academic publications and by international courts and organizations. He has also served on legal teams appearing before the International Court of Justice in the Hague, has testified as an expert witness on international law before numerous state and federal courts, and has consulted with both private organizations and branches of the U.S. government. He regularly appears as a radio and television commentator and is frequently quoted in leading newspapers. He has served in every major administrative position in the Criminal Justice Department, including Department Head.

Contemporary Criminal Law Textbook

I was skeptical when I first saw the price of this book, and the fact that the seller did not have a rating; thinking the book must be maked up and in rough shape, but when I recieved the book I was AMAZED! It was in perfect condition, other than on corner having a (very)little damage. The pages were pristine, no marks whatsoever. It was delivered on the day it was supposed to and the seller responded promptly to an email concerning this purchase.

A Good School Book

If you're looking at this book for casual reading I would advise you to keep looking, but this is a pretty good book for class. I'm currently using it in my criminal law (CJA 354) class as the required reading. With the class, we read chapters according to the syllabus, but without the class this would be a hefty read as there are almost 600 pages of reading material.

This is a book I'll be taking with me to law school as it does contain some pretty helpful material and it is well written. The author lists cases and then discusses those cases, but the main focus of the book are many concepts to law. For example, the book goes into great detail about constitutional limitations, actus rea (criminal acts) and mens rea (criminal intent), justification and defense excuses, crimes against public order and morality, etc.

One thing that I'm not crazy about is that there is a section in Appendix A that discusses what needs to go into a court citation (e.g. Jones v. United States, 308 F.2D), but it does not go into great detail and is actually kind of vague. I'm a visual guy and it would have been nice if a visual example and breakdown were included, but I guess that's where the internet comes in handy.

Buy this book used and you'll save a bundle of cash. I did and my book looks brand new. One thing I will say, though, that the seller forgot to highlight, this is not the latest edition of this book and will most likely not match up with your school's syllabus (depending on which version your school's using). This is the 2006 version and my school is using the 2010 version, so buyer beware when making your purchase.

An OK series, but gets repetitive after a while

My kids initially were excited to read these, but they got bored very quickly. The stories get so bland and formulaic after a while, they could easily guess what was coming. In the initial excitement I bought three different "Fairies" sets for them, but in the end the last set is still in its wrapper as the kids lost all interest.

I also wasn't impressed by the cheap quality of the printing and binding.

I put this rating because I liked the book but I read it in like 30 minutes because it is to small I think the book should be like 10 chapters and they should find the fairy in like the third chapter but everything else I liked
