A Great Book for the Uninformed

I was very anxious to get this book after reading the first one. I know Steve took a lot of hard criticism from people with the first one and probably with this one too. However, this is just straight up and to the point without all the psychological mumbo jumbo. For women who have not had a father in their lives who actually taught them something about men this is the book for you. People expect you to know things or say its common sense but if you were never told nor taught then common sense doesn't come into play. A lot of women nowadays just don't know or don't understand because "Mama" and your girlfriends told you to go find yourself a good man but never told you anything about what you were trying to find. I thank Steve for this book and the previous one because so many of us (especially) black women who did not have fathers never knew how to pick the best father for their own children much less a man to share your life with. Say what you want and to each his own but I feel blessed by Steve taking this route in his career and writing. Had he stuck to just the comedy avenue then who else would have done this or been bold enough to inform us.

No smoke and Mirrors

I love that Steve doesn't "sugar coat" or beat around the bushes. It's refreshing that he has the guts to just come out and say what he means without apology. Although this book is based on Steve's personal experiences and opinions, the advise is very sound and there is no guessing involved. This book really worked for me. Before I had read the book, I had heard of the 90 day rule. Being recently divorced and new to the dating scene, I knew that was a rule I wanted to follow. I started a dating a friend that I had prior to my divorce. I knew he was a "player", as he would always flirt with me when I saw him out in public, even if he was with one of his many girlfriends. Well, I was not ready for anything serious, but I wasn't going to just give myself away either. I sure wasn't ready to be another notch on his belt. So, I enacted the 90 day rule. I am so glad I did. We got really close really fast. We had lots of fun together and took time to really get to know each other. When I would tell my friends that we were not "doing the deed", they would be shocked because they knew him as well as I did and knew he was a player. They couldn't believe we were still dating when they found out he had not had the "cookie". I did make him wait the full 90 days. Today, we have been happily married for 3.5 years and he seems as content as can be to be with me. I would recommend this book to anyone who doesn't like smoke and mirrors and just wants it straight.

My only problem with this is that it's a little ...

My only problem with this is that it's a little unrealistic. It suggests that women need to be dolled up all the time, and men can't see us in our natural states. That surprised me coming from S. Harvey. If a man won't appreciate me when I'm natural, why in the world would I dress up for him??!
